2. Explore the Great Ocean Drive Loop

Get ready to be blown away on this epic 40-kilometer joyride along the Great Ocean Drive. We drove through this area, stopping at every beach, and I was genuinely surprised by how spectacular it was. The endless views of the Southern Ocean beaches with white sand and turquoise water were breathtaking. There are heaps of spots to pull over and snap Instagram-worthy pics. Remember to take your time and soak up the vibes of this coastal paradise. Click on the link for a map to guide you through this fantastic drive.

The Great Ocean Drive showcases wind farms, blending sustainability with mesmerizing views. Colossal turbines spin against the Southern Ocean backdrop, contributing to the area’s energy needs. A harmonious blend of nature and innovation.

The Great Ocean Drive is an immersive coastal journey. Take your time. To see it well, this trip can take anywhere from half a day to a day.

3. Savoring Local Craftmanship: A Journey through the Flavors of Lucky Bay Brewing

Lucky Bay Brewery

There’s no better way to conclude your adventures for the day than heading down to Lucky Bay Brewing. Tucked away in this coastal paradise, Lucky Bay Brewing is the first commercial brewery in Esperance. This family-owned restaurant and bar beckons both locals and visitors alike to savor the authentic taste of Western Australia.

Now, Lucky Bay Brewery is NOT situated at Lucky Bay in Cape Le Grande National Park, so don’t get confused. You can detour there and effortlessly return to Esperance from your adventures in the national park.

At the heart of Lucky Bay Brewing lies a commitment to crafting exceptional beers, a tradition that has been passed down through generations. This family-owned brewery takes pride in its roots, infusing each brew with a touch of Esperance’s unique character. From the malting process to the final pour, meticulous dedication to quality sets Lucky Bay Brewing apart.

What makes Lucky Bay Brewing truly special is its reliance on locally sourced grains. I love how they use their own local Ingredients, giving the beer authentic flavor. So, every sip is a genuinely immersive journey in Esperance’s rich terroir. We couldn’t decide so ended up getting one of everything!

End of the day relax
+ a wood fired pizza. Perfect end to a busy day.

No Lucky Bay Brewing visit’s complete without ‘Thistle Cove Pale Ale.’ This ale pays homage to Esperance’s natural beauty, a harmonious blend of hops, malt, and coastal breeze. Each sip celebrates the region, resonating with the beauty of Thistle Cove beach, my personal favorite. We couldn’t choose between beer flavors, so I ordered a flight board to try them all. Cheers!

Lucky Bay Brewing embodies Esperance’s warmth. It’s an indoor-outdoor vibe and the perfect setting to unwind and laugh while you recall your day and that random ice cream shop encounter. (That’s for you, Miss Lizzy!!)

4. Lucky Bay

Lizzy embracing Lucky Bay

In Cape Le Grande National Park, Lucky Bay deserves a special shout-out. This beach is nature at its finest and has it all.

As you drive over the hill, you’re welcomed by powdery white sands and gentle turquoise waters—straight out of a travel brochure. It’s like a visual symphony.

Lucky Bay is famous for its kangaroo-dotted shores and consistently ranks among Australia’s best beaches. The sight of kangaroos against that stunning backdrop makes it truly unique. In 2023, Banana Boat even voted Lucky Bay the Top Beach in the World. It’s easy to see why.

The views here are breathtaking, showcasing the unspoiled beauty of the Southern Ocean, meeting the rugged Australian coastline. Those friendly kangaroos are best seen at dusk and dawn, adding an extra touch of magic. Whether capturing sunrise or sunset, soaking up the midday sun, or taking a dip in the Southern Ocean, Lucky Bay is all about creating unforgettable moments.

HOT TIP: Lucky Bay is inside Cape Le Grande National Park. If you’re doing a day trip, grab a map from the visitor center, start at Lucky Bay, and work your way back.

Accommodation: You can stay at Lucky Bay. Check the National Park website for options.

Lucky Bay is a must-visit. Just remember that dogs are not allowed in a National Park.

Esperance Coastal Walk

Immerse yourself in the unspoiled beauty of Esperance with the Esperance Coastal Walk. This scenic trail showcases this coastal paradise’s breathtaking coastline and diverse ecosystems. Embarking on the Esperance Coastal Walk is like entering a postcard. The landscape hugging the coastline with uninterrupted views is stunning. The walk caters to all fitness levels, ensuring everyone can enjoy a well-maintained, easy-to-navigate trail. Whether meandering along the shoreline or exploring coastal heathlands, it offers a flexible exploration tailored to your preferences. I recommend going first thing in the morning in summer or in the evening. I like to run, so it’s a great running track. The track is excellent as you can park in several spots along the track and start from there. The track caters to all fitness levels, so give it a go.

6. Get Immersed in Esperance’s Local History

Sometimes it rains even when you are on holiday. How rude and inconvenient! Here is a great option to discover Esperance’s diverse history at the Esperance Museum for that wet or relaxing day. I am a proud geek and love history, museums, and cemeteries :). At uni, the backbone of my degree was history, archeology, and anthropology, so obviously, this is my thing. If you understand how the place came to be, you better understand the art and culture you experience. That’s what I think, anyway.

Learn about the maritime explorers and local Indigenous communities. Explore Esperance’s development from a small settlement to a thriving community. The museum is a testament to the town’s resilience and diversity, offering an immersive encounter with the past.

Whether a history enthusiast or a casual visitor, it connects you with Esperance’s roots, enriching your understanding of its vibrant culture and heritage. Check out the official website for details on visiting: Esperance Museum.
